State Chaotic, But Small Town Politics Serene

California may be in the midst of a recall free-for-all, but in politics in one town in the San Francisco Bay area is running so smoothly that a November election may be canceled.

No one in Newark filed papers to challenge incumbent Mayor Dave Smith or council members Luis Freitas and Sue Johnson. That means there may be no need for the city to hold a scheduled election November 4.

Political life is usually simple in Newark. The City Council has voted as a block at every meeting for the past five years.
