CalTrans Official Says Collapse is “Minor Incident”

State officials say Saturday´s collapse of the overpass being built in Sonora won´t delay the project.

CalTrans spokesman Robert Spradling says the only real damage done when the “I” beams and lumber came crashing down was some minor damage to a crane.

“It´s a minor incident,” Spradling said. “We don´t anticipate any delay in the current construction,” Spradling added. “There is no impact to the structure that we have in place,” he said.

The overpass is part of the new Caltrans Sonora Bypass construction project. No one was injured. Spradling says the cause of the collapse is under investigation.
