Yosemite´s Camp Four Now a Historic Place

A walk-in campground in the Yosemite Valley is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Camp Four, also known as Sunnyside Campground, is heralded as crucial to the development of rock climbing as a worldwide sport.

The site is across from Yosemite Lodge. It´s been used by climbers for decades because of its easy access to the park´s towering granite walls.

Linda McMillan is vice president of the American Alpine Club, a rock-climbing organization. She says the campground is historic and unique because of its freewheeling, dynamic spirit and the people drawn to it over the decades.
