Important Archaelogical Site Found In Tuolumne

A local archaeologist says it looks like the remnants of an ancient Indian encampment have been found on the Former Westside Lumber Company property in Tuolumne City.

Archaeologist Shelly Davis-King says it´s not yet possible to know exactly how old the site is. But, saying she has 35 years of experience, Davis-King estimates the site is around 3,000 years old. She says the artifacts found at the site include arrowheads, burned logs, and animal bones.

The Central Sierra Me-Wuk Cultural and Historical Preservation Society is asking that the exact location of the site not be given, so that no one tampers with it.
