Mystery Illness Affecting U.S. Business

The mystery illness making its way through parts of Asia has affected U.S. business.

Analysts say production of Chinese-made electronics, Christmas toys and other items could slow down considerably if the disease isn´t brought under control. High tech companies have been particularly affected. Motorola temporarily shut down the night shift at a Singapore plant when a worker came down with the disease. Some 300 co-workers at the plant have been quarantined. Intel and Hewlett-Packard closed their Hong Kong offices after employees were suspected of having SARS. Sun Microsystems canceled a trade show and product launch in Shanghai scheduled for next Monday.

More than 1,600 people have been infected with SARS worldwide, and at least 64 have died.
