Ruptured Propane Tank Prompts Evacuation

Tuolumne County sheriffs and fire department officials evacuated 10 homes in Twain Harte just after 2 p.m. this afternoon following a vehicle accident that ruptured a 500-gallon propane tank. The accident was on Middle Camp Sugar Pine Road at Lakewood Road.

Deb Fish with the county fire says residents in that area down hill from the ruptured tank were evacuated by sheriff€™s deputies to a staging area at the old Sierra Pines golf course in the area.

Fish says the evacuation should last about an hour or until the gas dissipates. Roads into that area will remain closed until officials believe the area is safe.
