SARS Scare at SFO

A Northwest Airlines flight has been given the go ahead to leave San Francisco after a SARS scare grounded the craft this afternoon. Minneapolis bound flight 360 was scheduled to take off at 12:25 PM, but returned to the gate after a passenger exhibited some symptoms of the deadly virus SARS.

Airport spokesman Mike McCarron says 170 passengers were kept on the plane while the man was checked out by the U.S. Public Health Service. McCarron called the move “precautionary.”

Northwest spokeswoman Mary Stanik says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has cleared the aircraft and the passenger, and says the sickness is “definitely not SARS related.”

The airport and airline did not have details of the man´s symptoms.
