Asphalt Truck Overturns

A gooey mess on Highway 132 near La Grange Wednesday afternoon.

A big rig tanker truck filled with asphalt emulsion used for paving over-turned just before 1:30 p.m., leaking the gooey, tar-like oil into a dry creek bed and field.

The highway patrol says the driver of the went into a curve at 40 miles-per-hour when the brakes failed, sending the truck crashing off the roadway. The driver suffered a possible broken collar bone and was air lifted by helicopter to a Modesto hospital.

Tuolumne County CDF firefighters were called in to assist. The roadway was closed down while crews pumped contents of the 4,000 gallon tank into another truck.
