Foothill Horizons Cabin Burns, No Injuries

A fire this morning at the Foothill Horizons Summer Camp left a cabin destroyed, but no one was hurt.

The first call went out around 9:10 this morning at the 21-thousand block of Lyons Bald Mountain Road.

Firefighters reported the cabin was fully involved in flames upon their arrival, but they stopped the fire quickly and prevented it from spreading to the wildland, says fire department spokesman Craig Hart.

Hart added that the kids and the camp´s staff must have been practicing their evacuation plan. He said it looks like that was a big reason why everyone got out safely.

County Fire Marshal Kary Hubbard says the fire is not suspicious in nature, but the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. It totally destroy the large cabin.

Hubbard says eight young men used fire hoses and are being credited in keeping the fire from spreading into the surrounding wildland. Several of them were treated for smoke and heat by paramedics but did not have to be taken to the hospital. There were no other injuries.

One hundred persons were at the camp at the time of the fire. Hubbard says the cabin that burnt was not being used to house campers, but was used for storage. Camp officials were trying to put together an damage loss estimate this afternoon.

KVML´s Sebastian Kunz contributed to this story.
