Trash Collected At Yosemite

Last weekend the National Park Service, the Yosemite Climbing Association, and over a 150 volunteers joined forces to collect eight pick-up loads of garbage and trash from Yosemite Valley. Climbers joined together and from campgrounds to the base of Half Dome picked up cigarette butts to abandoned mattresses.

After a final push on Sunday, the weekend event ended with a campfire in Camp 4, the campground traditionally used by climbers, where raffled prizes donated from Black Diamond, Patagonia, Metolius, DNC Parks & Resorts at Yosemite, the Access Fund and others were distributed.

Geared toward the climbing community, the organizers would like to see a similar event every year. The goal to clean up Yosemite every fall is to help Yosemite as a whole. If you would like to be part of this uplifting project, you have another chance on Saturday, October 9. The goal to cover the areas missed in SeptemberĀ“s clean up include some approach trails and El CapitanĀ“s summit.
