A Sonora man was arrested on DUI charges Monday night, after a hit and run accident on Tuolumne Road at the entrance to the Junction Shopping Center.
Just before 5pm Monday, 51-year-old Carl Collins rear-ended a vehicle driven by 41-year-old Julie Chavez while she was stopped at a red light. That caused Chavez´s vehicle to hit the car in front of her.
Suspect Collins then backed up and hit Chavez´s vehicle a second time, while trying to drive off.
After a witness got his license plate number, CHP officers went to the home of Carl Collins, and discovered fresh front-end damage on his 1993 Ford Van.
Collins was arrested after an investigation. The victim, Julie Chavez, was taken to Sonora Regional Medical center with moderate injuries.
