Jamestown Landfill Headaches Continue for County

Trouble at the Jamestown Landfill will be discussed at today´s session of the county Board of Supervisors.

California´s Regional Water Quality Control Board had set a closure deadline of December 31, 2003 for the Jamestown landfill. But it´s not a cheap or easy project, and now the county could face fines if they don´t finish the job before the deadline extension.

More then 2 million dollars in county transportation money is expected to be borrowed for the project, but repaying that money could increase fees for trash collection and dumping.

The issue will be debated this morning at the meeting of the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors.

Also on the agenda, declaring April to be Library Month in Tuolumne County, and recognizing Ron Stearn´s 40 years of service on the Sonora City Council.

It all happens this morning, on the fourth floor of the County Administration Center.
