State agricultural officials say crime on the state´s farms is a reality. They say thieves targeting farms in rural areas steal everything from tractors to walnut burl to avocados right off the trees. Fuel thefts have quadrupled in the San Joaquin Valley since the price of diesel rose to all-time high in the state. Many farmers are finding they´re losing thousands of dollars when their fuel storage tanks are tapped into.
