Errors Lead California Officials To Warn Voting-Machine Company

Sacramento, CA — California election officials have warned one of the country´s largest manufacturers of voting machines to repair its software after problems with vote counts and verification surfaced during California´s November special election.

In a letter to Election Systems and Software, the California Secretary of State threatened to start a decertification process if the problems aren´t fixed soon.

They included incorrect counting of turnout figures and a malfunction that kept voters from verifying their choices had been registered accurately.

Touch-screen machines were used in just one county, but one machine recorded the wrong vote during a test. The company blames that on the tester´s long fingernails.

The company says it´s working on the problems, which didn´t cause any incorrect votes to be recorded. Company officials also have met with California election officers.
