Awards Banquet Treats Coaches

Angels Camp, CA — An annual awards banquet for the Bret Harte High School football program has given a little something extra to coaches this year.

The banquet, which drew about 100 people Monday, is actually organized by coaches to recognize players of the freshmen, sophomore and varsity football teams. The freshman went undefeated this season.

As a surprise to coaches, a newly formed group of parents called the Bret Harte Football Boosters gave the coaches $400 each in appreciation of their efforts. Head Coach Gordon Sadler Senior refused his gift and gave it back to the teams.

Group secretary Kristi Borean said the money was left over from fundraisers, which funded several purchases for the football department. This year the teams received game banners, video equipment and knee protection for lineman.

The group is also planning a fundraiser on Super Bowl Sunday. For more information and for tickets contact Borean at 728-8090.
