Calaveras Deputies Discover Meth Following Traffic Stop

San Andreas, CA — A Vallecito man on probation is facing new charges after a traffic stop by Calaveras County Sheriff´s deputies Sunday.

Investigators say 21-year-old James Whorton was pulled over on Highway 4 in Copperopolis for an expired registration.

Deputies found that Whorton was driving with a suspended license and was on felony probation for a burglary charge.

A report says 20-year-old Samuel Cocks of Angels Camp was a passenger in the vehicle.

Deputies say a search of the vehicle turned up about two and a half grams of methamphetamine, scales and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The two were booked on felony drug charges at Calaveras County Jail.

Whorton´s bail was set at $53,000.
