Community Comes Through For Hurricane Victims Once Again

Sonora, CA — Hurricane Victims will soon receive care packages thanks, in part, to a Sonora High School Senior.

Lauren Mojica created a project called Heart & Soul from the heart of Sonora, to the soul of New Orleans. Mojica has done extensive fund raising and item collection to make care packages and over the weekend she took it one step further by showing the people devastated by the hurricanes exactly who is helping them.

Mojica organized a community photo to represent the support the Mother Lode is giving the victims. She says the idea came to her when she heard that hundreds of people had virtually nothing, not even a toothbrush, or a change of clothes.

The packages will be given to a toy and diaper drive in November to be distributed out from there; however Mojica says this is only the beginning. She is working towards being considered for one of only ten Points of Light Foundation grants in the amount of $10,000 to further her project.
