San Francisco Utility Commission To Discuss Water Options

San Francisco, CA — The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission is looking at various options to meeting the city´s growing water needs.

The commission is meeting today to explore the idea of building a fourth pipeline across Stanislaus County to tap an additional 35 million gallons a day from the Tuolumne River.

The panel may also decide to abandon such plans in favor of upgrading the existing three.

Also on the table is a proposed desalinization plant which would be part of a cooperative effort with other Bay Area utility companies.

The commission has stated that at least 300 million gallons a day will be needed to meet the city´s needs by the year 2030.
