Jamestown, CA — CHP is reporting a fatal car accident on highway 108-120 west of O´Byrnes Ferry Road last night.
Officer Brad Schultz of CHP says 23-year-old Ricardo Lopez of Riverbank was driving wrecklessly eastbound shortly before 9:30 when the car crossed the center line into the westbound lane.
CHP says 37-year-old Zena Solano of Stockton was travelling westbound with six passengers in a Ford pickup when it collided head-on with Lopez´s vehicle.
Reports indicate that 74-year-old Juanita Cortez, who was passenger in Solano´s vehicle was taken to Tuolumne General Hospital where she later died of her injuries.
Schultz says two children in Solano´s vehicle were unrestrained and were airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center with severe head and facial injuries. Three other passengers in Solano´s truck were also transported to area hospitals.
Solano and Lopez sustained only minor injuries.
Lopez was arrested for driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.
