Pair Arrested in Connection With Mokelumne Hill Burglary

According to the Calaveras County Sherriff´s Department, two men were arrested Thursday and charged in connection with a burglary at the Hotel Leger in Mokelumne Hill on March 21st.

The burglary resulted in the loss of a safe containing nearly $3,000, master keys to the hotel and various documents.

Ryan Joseph Cook, 18, was arrested for burglary and James Melvin McLain, 20, for grand theft, receiving stolen property and concealing evidence.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for a home in the Ione area and found the safe, master keys, documents and a large portion of the cash. The safe had been forced open and the suspects spent much of the money on clothing and other items. They also hid some of the money, which was found during the investigation.
