UC Admits More Students For Fall 2005

The University of California admitted a record 50-thousand in-state freshmen for the coming fall.

That´s a ten percent increase over last year when state budget

cuts forced the rejection of some qualified students.

This year, U-C returned to its longheld tradition of finding a place somewhere in the ten-campus system for all students who met admissions criteria.

Numbers were up for students of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, looking at systemwide aggregate totals.

However, the number of blacks and Hispanics admitted to the top campuses of Berkeley and U-C-L-A was still below levels achieved with affirmative action admissions.
