Developers Plan Two New Housing Projects Near Don Pedro

Developers are planning two housing projects near the Eastern shore of Don Pedro Reservoir.

The new developments would be located on 927 acres of what is now cattle grazing land.

Planners say the Jenkins Hill subdivision would create 52 ten acre lots while the Sierra Hills projects proposes 75 lots of at least five acres each. Developers say they hope to attract buyers with the large size of the lots.

Don Pedro Reservoir is a popular recreation spot for Tuolumne County residents, and is also a source for electricity and irrigation water.

The projects would require more than 850 acres of agricultural land to be rezoned to residential.

Planners must complete an environmental impact statement before going before the county planning commission.
