Officials Planning To Open Two Of Three Passes

Undated — Good news for travelers wanting to traverse the mountain passes this weekend.

Steve Smith of CalTrans says the state maintained passes should be open by the end of the week. Smith says Sonora Pass is expected to open tomorrow afternoon by 3:00 pm, while Ebbets Pass should be open by Thursday afternoon.

Meanwhile, officials with Yosemite National Park say the snow on Tioga Pass is still 15 feet deep in places. Park rangers say there are also several avalanche zones that need to be cleared before road crews can go to work in the area.

Officials say Glacier Point should be open by tomorrow, but the pass probably won´t be open for several weeks.
