Still No Answer When It Comes To Lowes

Sonora, CA — The Sonora Planning Commission has postponed their decision regarding the Lowes Home Improvement Center site review application.

The public hearing drew a large crowd Wednesday night with standing room only by the time the meeting got underway.

More than 100 people attended and about half got up to speak about the project. Representatives from Lowes said that consumers´ benefit when they have a choice, and when stores compete consumers win.

Several supporters agreed and one man said he would wait outside to spend his money when the doors open; however some spoke out opposing the project, sighting traffic problems, air quality, pollution, and the loss of local businesses.

The acronym EIR was used frequently by community members who said they were not necessarily for or against the development of Lowes, they simply wanted an EIR, which is an Environmental Impact Report.

The Planning Commission decided to take more time to review the material and comments. They will meet again Thursday evening at 6:00pm for more deliberation.
