Sonora, CA– Many Mother Lode residents may find themselves planning alternate routes over the holiday weekend due to chain controls on several highways.
According to Cal-Trans, chains or snow tires are required on Highway 108 from Spring Gap Road to the Snow Park Closure. Chains or snow tires are also required on Highway 4 from Tamarack to the Mount Reba Closure.
Highway 120 is closed at Crane Flat and chains or snow tires are required from Silver Lake to Red Lake Creek. Cal-Trans officials say during the winter driving period, motorists should carry chains in mountain areas and should watch out for highway maintenance workers.
