Mele-Memmer Race May Be Determined Today

Sonora, CA — Of the 333 provisional ballots that needed to be processed to wrap up the race for Tuolumne County Sheriff-Coroner, 11 have been disqualified because those individuals did not meet the registration deadline for the 2006 General Election.

County Clerk and Auditor Debi Russell says of the 322 remaining ballots, frontrunner Jim Mele needs only 80 cast in his favor to wrap up the race. Tom Memmer, on the other hand, would need 242 votes to pull off a “come from behind” victory.

Russell is hopeful the election´s outcome will be known sometime this afternoon.
