Board Reexamines RIM Fee

San Andreas, CA — Calaveras County´s Road Impact Mitigation Fee Program may get some tweaking by the Board of Supervisors Monday.

The program charges developers for their impacts on regional roads.

The entire program is being reviewed for a number of reasons.

When first considering the program some board members felt a large fee on commercial development would hamper that type of growth. Monday the board will see how its commercial fee stacks up to neighboring counties.

The board will also look at and possibly modify a list of projects to be funded by the RIM fees. Staff is recommending establishing a different set of criteria for inclusion in the program.

Staff is also asking to hire a firm that would look at different funding options for the unfunded portion of the program. Roughly $118 million is needed to pay for what the new development fees will not cover. Staff points out the money could come from a gas or sales tax.

The RIM fee study session will begin at 1:30 p.m.
