CHP Highly Visible During Maximum Enforcement

Sonora, CA — The maximum enforcement period for the California Highway Patrol has ended, however officers are still on high alert.

CHP Officer Tom Wills says there was plenty of activity during the enforcement period, which was in effect from December 15th through Jan 2nd.

Wills says over the New Year´s Eve period there were 18 fatalities statewide and seven of them were not wearing seatbelts.

Aside from issuing traffic violations, Wills says CHP officers were extremely busy during the storms that hit the Mother Lode.

Officers responded to trees blocking roads, rockslides, and stranded motorists on flooded roadways.

Wills reminds travelers to steer clear of flooded roadways and avoid hitting the brakes while sliding on ice or snow.
