Earthquake And Aftershocks Hit Alum Rock Area

Menlo Park, CA — The U.S. Geological Survey reports a 5.6 magnitude earthquake occured five miles NNE of Alum Rock, CA at 8:04:54pm Tuesday.

Through 7:15am Wednesday that quake has been followed by 31 small aftershocks the largest of which was a 2.8 at 2:57:51am. Three additional aftershocks, 2.0 and above, have hit 2.1 (8:41:31pm), 2.0 (11:02:16pm) and 2.3 (7:14:50am) on the Richter Scale.

Alum Rock is located in Santa Clara County, NNE of San Jose, south of Milpitas and east of the I-680 freeway.

According to ABC News, this is the largest quake felt in the Bay Area region in 20 years.
