Sierra Repertory Theatre Granted $275,000

Sonora, CA — Thanks to the James Irvine Foundation of San Francisco, the Sierra Repertory Theatre has received a $275,000 grant to be utilized over a three year period.

S.R.T. Founder Sara Jones says the funds are apart of the foundation´s total package of $4.1 million in grants to 15 central valley arts institutions. The purpose of the grants is to broaden and diversify audiences while boosting organizational capacity.

Jones adds that, in the case of S.R.T., the funds will be utilized to strengthen the theatre´s stature, increase fundraising efforts, build audiences and ensure long term stability.

Jones stated that the Irvine Foundation is excited about the possibility of a new S.R.T. with the hopes that it would gain a stature similar to that held by the Ashland, Oregon Shakespearean Festival. At the same time the grant guidelines prohibit any use of the funds for capital improvements to the existing S.R.T. facility. Also the funds cannot be used to build a new theatre.
