Caltrans Discusses Options For Hwy 140 Into Yosemite

Mariposa, Ca — Caltrans officials presented six options to the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors Tuesday for the reconstruction of Hwy 140.

The Ferguson Slide closed the roadway on April 29th, 2006. It was reopened for a short time and later closed due to a second slide. The six options carry respective price tags from $35 to $378 million.

According to Mariposa County 1st District Supervisor Brad Aborn, the federally funded Major Damage Permanent Restoration Program would pick up the cost of the project which could start in 2009 or perhaps sooner.

Aborn says Congressional Representative George Radanovich, State Senator Dave Cogdill and Assemblyman Tom Berryhill are expected to attend the next hearing this coming Tuesday.
