Calaveras Moratorium Continues

San Andreas, CA — A modified building moratorium in Calaveras County was extended 10 months and 15 days by the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors Tuesday.

The board had initially passed a 45-day ban on all zoning and general plan amendments in December. This latest extension could be continued once more for another year, if the board so chooses.

The board is putting a halt on the amendments with the hope of curbing larger development from coming through while the county works on its outdated General Plan.

Board Chair Bill Claudino says he knows the moratorium makes the development community anxious. However, he says, the county is in a bind because it´s hard to work on something when you can´t quite keep up with it. Claudino also gave the analogy that it´s difficult to hit a moving target.

After voting unanimously to extend the moratorium, the board authorized spending $230,000 for a consultant to begin Phase 1 and 2 of the General Plan update.
