Pedro To Seek Approval Of ’08-’09 Tuolumne County Fiscal Budget

Sonora, CA — Tuolumne CAO Craig Pedro will seek approval tomorrow from the Board of Supervisors for a $161 million fiscal budget.

The budget will be introduced at 9am but any dialogue along with a detailed analysis will not be conducted until 1:30 following the 90 minute lunch break.

Pedro states that this is a redution of $8 million and five percent from a year ago. That is coupled with four fewer county employees.

Pedro realizes this may not be the final budget as he anticipates additional cuts coming from the state in the areas of public safety, behavioral health, social services and even public safety. He is thankful that some funds have been restored to the Sheriff´s Office and the Probation Department.

In perspective Pedro notes that there has been a drastic decrease in the size of Tuolumne County government. Only five years ago the county employed 965 people. Tuesday´s budget will call for 788 county employees … a reduction of 177 or 18 percent.
