Sheriff’s Deputy Injured In Single Vehicle Accident

San Andreas, CA — Calaveras County Sheriff´s Deputy Matt Carmichael suffered moderate but not life-threatening injuries in a single vehicle accident on Hwy 26 near Humbug Creek Rd. in Glencoe Sunday afternoon.

With no lights or siren, Carmichael was responding as a backup unit to an attempted suicide in West Point when the patrol car left the right road edge. As Carmichael attempted to regain control he turned to the left causing the vehicle to rotate and cross the traffic lanes. The vehicle became airborne off a steep embankment and overturned onto its roof against a large oak tree trapping Carmichael inside.

A citizen helped Carmichael from the vehicle and immedicately contacted Dispatch. Carmichael was flown to Memorial Hospital in Modesto where he is reported to be in stable condition.

The individual who initiated the call did not commit suicide. That person was transported to Mark Twain-St. Joseph´s Hospital.
