Wal Mart E.I.R. Expansion Meeting Set For This Evening

Sonora, CA – The City of Sonora Planning Commission will be conducting a public meeting this evening at City Hall to consider a recommendation by the Community Development Director that an environmental impact report be prepared regarding the proposed 28,366 square foot Wal Mart expansion.

Public Works Director Ed Wyllie says it´s a matter of following the process to discover if there are any concerns given the original report that was issued 15 years ago when Wal Mart was built. One of those concerns could be increased traffic load.

Wyllie adds it could take eight to nine months to complete the E.I.R. Another month would probably be added if there were any concerns.

The proposed expansion would house a grocery section. The total square footage for the store would be 157,657. The expansion would be placed at the east end of the store in an area which is a vacant lot. There is some parking between the lot and Mervyn´s.

This evening´s meeting is set for seven o´clock.
