California’s Lt. Governor Addresses Calaveras Business Leaders

Angels Camp, Ca — California´s Lt. Governor was in the Mother Lode Friday night to speak at the Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce Installation Dinner.

John Garamendi, a Mokelumne Hill native, spoke on issues such as prison overcrowding, the need for quality education, and adapting to a changing economic climate.

“There´s been very rapid growth in the county, and the county is going to have to catch up with all the infrastructure,” says Garamendi. “This is everything from schools, to parks, to sewers. And at the same time, making sure that the intellectual infrastructure is superb here. Otherwise there will be a lot of kids who won´t be able to make it in the economy that is coming down on them.”

Friday´s event was held at Greenhorn Creek in Angels Camp. The evening was also a chance to recognize the incoming Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

The night was capped off with the announcement that Mark Twain St. Joseph´s Hospital has been selected as the 2008 Business of the Year.
