Sonora, CA — Effective January 1, 2009 Sonora will have a new police chief.

Mace McIntosh has announced his retirement effective December 31, 2008. McIntosh commented that after 30 years as a law enforcement officer it´s time to move on and allow someone else to take over the job.

The 52 year old McIntosh will retire with 90 percent of his salary.

McIntosh was born and raised in Red Bluff. He spent 25 and a half years with the Red Bluff Police Department prior to his move to Sonora in June of 2004.

McIntosh commented one his greatest challenges was coming into a community with which he had no familiarity. He mentioned that it takes time to build meaningful relationships. Increased traffic within the three square miles of the city limits is a challenge currently facing the department.

His greatest joy of his four-and-a-half years in Sonora, meeting and marrying Lucy, a department manager at Wal Mart. Upon his retirement McIntosh says you can probably find him on his motorcycle touring the county.
