Hwy 140 To Open To Longer Vehicles Friday

Mariposa County, CA — Caltrans will be officially opening Hwy 140 tomorrow to 45-foot long vehicles following a 2pm ribbon cutting ceremony.

Access on Hwy 140 has been limited to 28 foot vehicles or less due to the limitations of the temporary bypass. The bypass was installed two years ago after the highway was closed May 25 to traffic as a result of the Ferguson rockslide. Caltrans opened a two-bridge one-lane bypass to traffic on August 18 of that same year but the two temporary bridges only allowed vehicles up to 28 feet in length access to Yosemite on Hwy 140.

Caltrans decided to install the two new interim bridges after it was determined the permanent project would not go into construction as anticipated this summer.
