Chamber Of Commerce Looks To Increase Membership

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce has not been immune to the slow economy in 2009.

Chamber President and CEO George Segarini was Thursday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

The Chamber has lost 79 members this year, equating to a loss of $16,000 in revenue. It still remains a strong organization with around 400 members.

Segarini says it was a major topic of discussion at the Board of Directors annual retreat held earlier this week.

“There are no major cutbacks anticipated at this time, and the Board feels they want to get more active in discussing the benefits and advantages of Chamber membership with other businesses that are not current chamber members,” says Segarini.

Segarini says the Chamber must watch expenses closely and be open to finding ways to reduce expenses in the coming months.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:46, 7:46 and 8:46am.
