Sonora Moves Forward On Lowe’s Project

Sonora, CA — The city has taken another step forward in realizing a Lowe’s Home Improvement Center.

By a unanimous Monday evening City Council vote it was determined that city attorney Richard Matranga may now negotiate the final terms of an agreement with the Tuolumne County Citizens For Responsible Growth regarding the proposed Lowe’s Home Improvement Center.

That agreement must be reached by September 21. Meanwhile the Citizens’ appeal has been tabled in lieu of agreeing upon the final details.

City Administrator Greg Applegate commented, "Most of the issues in the agreement are issues dealing with mitigation measures based upon the Environmental Impact Report such as green areas and open areas. We talked about different shrubs, bushes and the size of trees. There are no monetary issues."

If the agreement is signed by both parties it will go before the Council for ratification.
