Cox Asks For Extension On Gas Pump Requirements

Sacramento, CA — California is mandating that gas stations install more environmentally friendly gas nozzles by April 1st.

The rule will require the nozzles to capture 98% of vapor emissions rather than the current 95%.

Given the current economic conditions, 1st District Republican State Senator Dave Cox is calling on lawmakers to extend the deadline by one year.

“Those stations that have already complied are basically the ones that are owned by the refinery,” says Cox. “It is the mom and pop operations that haven’t been able to comply yet.”

Cox says a one year extension would allow gas stations time to find the necessary resources to finance the upgrade.
