Man Strikes Clerk After Attempting To Steal Gas

Valley Springs, CA — A man got away after trying to steal gas in Calaveras County.

At 4:25am yesterday, two store clerks at the Chevron Station in Valley Springs noticed a man was trying pump gas into a 55 gallon drum after prying away the external panel on the pump. When the clerks confronted the man, he allegedly threatened to harm them. The man started to drive away and struck one of the clerks with his white cargo van. The other clerk then hit and damaged the driver’s side window as he continued to drive away.

The store clerk that was struck by the van was not injured. The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information should contact the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department.
