Groundbreaking For Calaveras Jail

San Andreas, CA — A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for this morning for the new Calaveras County Jail complex.

The ceremony will begin at 10am at the site located near the current Government Center. Board of Supervisors Chair Merita Callaway will serve as host. Calaveras is one of only two counties to receive state AB 900 funding to help build a jail. The current Calaveras County jail houses 65 inmates, and the new jail will include space for 160 beds. Governor Schwarzenegger was invited to attend today’s ceremony, but is not expected to attend. The Governor was on hand for a groundbreaking for the other AB 900 project, in San Bernardino County, earlier this week.
