Theft At PG&E Yard

Sonora, CA– The PG&E yard in Sonora reported a loss of $50,000 in stolen property this week.

According to Sgt. Jeff Wilson of the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office, unknown suspects entered the PG&E yard by cutting a chain on a locked gate between the hours of 10:00 pm Monday night and 5:00 am Tuesday morning.

Wilson believes the suspects are knowledgeable of PG&E practices because similar tool boxes were opened on each truck and many of the same tools were taken. Thousands of feet of copper wire was also stolen.

One or more large trucks would have been needed to remove all the items, Wilson says. A similar break in at a PG&E service center in San Luis Obispo County also occurred last month.

Because of its high resale value, copper thefts have been on the rise.

Anyone having any information about the stolen property are asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 533-5815.
