Recycling Increases 550%

Sonora, CA — Waste Management estimates that recycling is up 550% in Tuolumne County since implementing the new two cart system. 169 tons of recyclable material was collected in Tuolumne County’s Waste Management Franchise area in August, compared to 26 tons in August of last year.

“We anticipated a substantial increase in volume, but are excited with the way our customers have embraced the new single stream recycling program,” says Tom Teach, WM/CAL Sierra Disposal District Manager. “Although the initial rollout was a bit rocky, it is obvious that the new program is a step in the right direction for Tuolumne County.”

Waste Management estimates that 80 percent of customers are setting out their recycling carts for collection service.
