Sonora’s New Mayor

Sonora has a new mayor and his name is Bill Canning.

Canning was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Mayor Canning has been a member of the Sonora City Council since September 2005. The Mayor is selected by simple rotation of the City Council. Had Gary Anderson been re-elected in the June elections, it would have been his turn.

The term of Sonora City Mayor is two years. This is Canning’s first time serving as Mayor.

Canning has resided in the Sonora area since the late 1970’s and is the Owner of C & N Construction, which specializes in commercial construction mostly in California.

“Downtown Sonora should be seen as a community that welcomes visitors while at the same time provides a safe environmental for all citizens,” Canning said. “I believe monies should be used to enhance our city while at the same time saving historical value and providing fire and police protection for the citizens of Sonora. In addition, the City needs to plan for enviable future growth with a definite plan in mind in order to preserve the integrity of the City.”

The Mayor can be reached at (209) 536-6240

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
