Budget Proposal Affects Schools

Sonora, CA — Education spending will take a hit as part of Governor Schwarzenegger’s revised budget proposal.

“It looks like we’re going to be down about $250 less per student than we received this year,” says Dr. Mike McCoy, Sonora High Superintendent. “That’s about three quarters of a million dollars, and with declining enrollment and other reductions, we’re looking at a $2 million shortfall.”

K-12 education is roughly $35 billion of state’s overall $83 billion General Fund budget.
