Fatal Victim Identified

Copperopolis, CA — The CHP has identified 76-year-old Warren Freedlun of Copperopolis as the man who was fatally injured on Highway 4 Friday afternoon.

The CHP believes that Freedlun was traveling westbound on Highway 4 when an eastbound car driven by 69-year-old Linda Jackson of Murphys drifted into the opposing lane of traffic. Freedlun reportedly swerved to the right, but was still struck by Jackson’s car.

Both vehicles overturned. Freedlun was pronounced dead on scene and Jackson was taken by ambulance to Sonora Regional Medical Center for minor injuries. A passenger in Freedlun’s truck, 37-year-old Michael Smith of Jamestown, also reported minor injuries.

The accident is still under investigation. It occurred shortly before 3:30pm. Highway 4 was briefly shutdown.
