Grief Support During The Holidays

The Holiday season can be a very difficult time for individuals as emotions run the gamut.

Kellae Brown, with the Center for a Non-Violent Community, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

The Center is a name change from what used to be known as the Mountain Women’s Resource Center. This new name more accurately reflects the range of services and programs they provide to the people they serve including men, teens and children.

For many community members, grief is a common emotion at this time of the year.

The Center offers a Grief Support Program that includes individual counseling and support groups.

Brown said that is okay to forgo holiday traditions or create completely new and different ones.

There is no wrong way to grieve and Brown emphasizes the need for people to be gentle with themselves and grieve at their own pace.

The telephone number for the Center is (209) 588-9305. For more information about the Center, click on http://www.nonviolentcommunity.org/

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
