Technology Helps Catch Burglar

Angels Camp, CA — Property stolen in Angels Camp has been returned to a Southern California man.

The man was visiting over the recent holiday weekend and parked his car in the downtown area while going out-to-eat. Stolen from the locked vehicle were an iPad 2, a backpack and clothes.

Utilizing a GPS tracking feature on the iPad 2, the victim determined that the device was located in the 600 block of Stanislaus Avenue. An Angels Camp Police Officer knocked on the door and found the stolen device. 19-year-old James Martin Winship told the officer that he had just purchased the iPad 2 from an unidentified 15-year-old juvenile. The Police Department says the Angels Camp juvenile was located and ultimately admitted his involvement in the theft.

The juvenile faces charges of burglary, grand theft and possession of stolen property. He was taken to the Juvenile Probation Department.

Winship was arrested and faces a charge of possession of stolen property.
